DARK CHAPTERS OF PRAGUE

The 20th Century — Occupation, Resistance, Communism & Revolution
Walk through the places where Prague's modern history unfolded — and discover the personal stories behind occupation, resistance, dictatorship, and the return to democracy.
[ A PERSONAL INVITATION ]
Let me show you the stories behind Prague's modern history.
Some of Prague's most important stories are hidden behind the streets we walk every day. I'd like to share the places, events, and personal experiences that help us understand what life here was like during the extraordinary decades of the 20th century.
Behind Prague's beautiful architecture lies a remarkable modern history.
During the 20th century, Prague witnessed the birth of Czechoslovakia, Nazi occupation, resistance, communist rule, the Prague Spring, and the Velvet Revolution. These events transformed the country and left lasting traces on the city and its people.

Together, we'll explore the streets and places connected with these defining moments. Rather than following a simple timeline of dates, we'll discover history through the people who experienced it — their hopes, difficult choices, everyday lives, and acts of courage.

A NOTE FROM NATALIA
History becomes personal when you stand where it happened.
Behind every turning point are people who lived through it — making difficult choices, protecting what mattered to them, and imagining a different future. Their stories give these familiar Prague streets a deeper meaning.
[ THE EXPERIENCE ]
A century of upheaval. The stories of those who lived through it.
Our journey begins with the optimism of 1918 and the creation of independent Czechoslovakia, before turning to the years of Nazi occupation. We'll explore stories of persecution and resistance, including Operation Anthropoid and the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich — an event that brought devastating reprisals.

After the war, we'll follow the communist takeover of 1948, the impact of censorship and political persecution, and the hopes of the Prague Spring in 1968, ended by the Warsaw Pact invasion. Finally, we'll arrive at the Velvet Revolution of 1989 and the remarkable journey of Václav Havel from dissident playwright to president.
History through everyday lives.
What did it mean to live under occupation or behind the Iron Curtain? We'll talk about the choices people faced, the realities of censorship, the risks of resistance, and how political events affected ordinary families and daily life.
Walk through the places where history happened.
As we explore Prague together, I'll connect the streets and landmarks around us with the events they witnessed. There will be time for questions, reflection, and a closer look at the chapters of history that interest you most.
[ MORE THAN SIGHTSEEING ]
Discover the stories that shaped modern Prague.
My hope is that by the end of our walk, you'll see Prague not only as a city of beautiful buildings, but also as a place where generations of people lived through profound change. The streets may look familiar, but the stories behind them will give you a new perspective on the city.
